The Dash

I heard this poem a few weeks ago and it really affected me! It hit home especially since losing Tim recently. But today I thought of it again as I heard about another BYU student that was killed in a car accident this weekend while driving back to Provo from spending Thanksgiving with her family. It breaks my heart to know that there are so many people around me going through something that I have had to endure recently. But this poem reminds me of how Tim lived his life and of how precious life really is.

THE DASH
by Linda Ellis
I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning to the end
He noted that first came the date of her birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years
For that dash represented all the time
That she spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not how much we own;
The cars, the house, the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard.
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we've never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy is being read
With your life's actions to rehash
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

I love them!

MY FAMILY!!!!

It's a pretty well-known fact that I have an amazing family! I just wanted to share with you all a couple of our recent family pictures. We took these the first weekend of October while we were at my parents condo at Wolf Creek. This was General Conference weekend and the weekend before Kyle went into the MTC. It is always so fun to spend time with the fam and I'm glad we have these new family pictures. I think they turned out pretty well. If I do say so myself...

It's gone...

I've been threatening to do it for a long time, but I finally bit the bullet and did it! It's gone! My long hair is gone!!!!

Last weekend I cut off almost 12 inches of hair! I had been growing it out for a while, but needed a change. Life is all about change right? And mine seems to be constantly full of it! One thing that is normally consistant though is my hair. I don't chop it very often, but I felt the need to change that too. (And the fact that I was occupying my time with picking split ends helped the decision too!) Basically, I think of it as a symbolic chop. A new start, if you will.

Here are pictures of the before and after for your viewing pleasure...

Before...

I also just wanted to showcase Sarah's halloween costume for anyone who might not frequent her blog! I literally couldn't stop laughing when I saw it in person. Totally awesome!

And yes, I was really boring this year and didn't dress up at all. But I was in court all day, so that is my excuse. If I could have dressed up, I would have been an inmate of the Utah County Jail. I have connections...

And after...
And why not throw in something a little sassy just for fun...
